Every week I answer a question from a reader or writer here on my blog. You can add a question to the queue by putting it in the comments on any blog. This week’s question is:
If you could do it all again, would you change anything in your career?
It’s an interesting question. I think we all look back with our 20-20 hindsight and think about what we could have done differently, but in the end, I fear if I changed anything I wouldn’t have come to where I am now. Things that seemed like the worst things in the world in my career (ending relationships with agents, having troubles with publishers, watching sales tank) often ended up being the best thing. They led to me taking creative risks or depending more on myself than others or waking up and just shaking up my game. So no, I don’t think I’d change a thing. I’m so proud of all my books (all nearly 49 of them) and the scars I wear make me who I am.
At this time of year, I guess I’d rather look forward than back. There are so many amazing things about to happen and we’ll see what new paths and directions they take me. That’s the exciting part of this kind of career…. you just never know….
